COVID-19 UPDATE – HOME CLOSED TO VISITORS

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve, our focus is on the wellbeing of our residents and employees, and we have made the difficult decision to close the home to all visitors. We are following government guidance and taking additional steps to minimise the risk of any outbreak in our homes and we are working hard to prepare for a scenario where residents or staff members are effected by the outbreak.

VE Day - 75 Years

VE Day is always a special occasion for us here in both Katherine House & Griffiths House and we sure celebrated the 75 year anniversary in style! Residents did an exceptional job decorating their frames and walking aids for the occasion. Staff members dressed in vintage costumes and the homes were beautifully decorated in red, white and blue bunting, balloons and table clothes to make residents feel proud as they remembered the end of the war in Europe.
Staff and residents gathered for a VE Coffee Morning, passing around ration books and memorabilia whilst sharing wartime stories; many residents then took to their feet for the moving two minutes silence.

Feeling united as a home, we paraded to lunch together. Leading the way, residents proudly sang wartime songs, cheering and waving patriotic flags. They were then each greeted with a big round of applause from staff members waiting for the parade in the dining room.
After lunch, residents were treated to Prosecco and vintage drinks and we watched a fantastic social distanced performance by the marvellous musician, John Prescott on the decking. John wowed the crowd with a mixture of theatrical songs & upbeat swing music and we joined in enthusiastically as we watched from inside.

Finally, we headed to the lounge to relax with a Victory Cream Tea and to watch the wartime services. Some residents chose to stay up for the Queen's speech whilst others enjoyed a viewing the following day.
